IEEE 802.3 is a working group that writes the collection standards of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) , which defines medium access control (MAC) for the physical layer and data link layer of wired Ethernet. This is typically a local area network (LAN) technology with some wide area network (WAN) applications. Physical connections are established between nodes and/or infrastructure devices (hubs, switches, routers) through various types of copper or optical cables.
